Marjoram (Origanum Majorana) is a perennial herb that is commonly used in the cooking from France and Italy. Marjoram is similar to Oregano with a more delicate flavor. Marjoram is indigenous to the Mediterranean area and was known to the Greeks and Romans, who looked on it as a symbol of happiness. Suggested Use: Marjoram is a delicious seasoning for tomato based sauces, olive oil and vinegar salad dressings with anchovies. It compliments Portobella Mushrooms and fresh vegetables such as eggplant particularly well. Marjoram is often mistaken for oregano. It has a delicate, sweet, pleasant, flavor with a slightly bitter undertone and can be used as a flavoring for meat dishes. Marjoram complements lamb dishes, beef, and veal. It also blends well with parsley, dill, basil, or thyme.
