Sports drinks provide important post-workout hydration. A good balance of sodium, magnesium and carbohydrates are essential to properly hydrate and restore electrolytes. We set out to make a natural sports drink and chose vitamin-rich Rooibos tea and mineral-rich Himalayan Salt for a non-caffeinated, delicious drink filled with anti-inflammatory and restorative benefits.
Makes 1 quart
Ingredients:
1 oz Vanilla Rooibos Tea*--read below for fun flavor ideas
1/4 tsp Extra Fine Himalayan Salt
1 tsp Calcium Magnesium Powder (we used unflavored Natural Calm)
2 Tbl Janway Honey
Directions:
Place 4 Tbl Vanilla Rooibos Tea in an infuser over a large mug or use a french press. Pour boiling water over the Rooibos Tea and steep for 10-12 minutes. Steeping this amount of Rooibos for a longer period is necessary, as you are making a concentrated base that will be diluted to make a quart. Pour the concentrate in a 1 quart container (we love mason jars for this.) Add the Himalayan Salt, Magnesium Powder and Janway Honey. Stir to combine. Add ice or water to fill the quart container.
*Rooibos is naturally sweet and delicious tasting. We love it on its own. It's also a great base for blending delicious teas. Try these flavors for making your own Rooibos Tea Sports Drink:
