Sweet-n-Savory Baked Sandwiches

I was treated to these sandwiches on a beach trip. They're tasty little treats--all warm and melty with swiss cheese, ham and turkey on mini sweet dinner rolls. The sandwiches are marinated in the baking pan for 24 hours making them a perfect dish to pre-pack in a cooler then pop in the oven after your first day at the beach. They also feature our Spice of the Month--Poppy Seeds--which give them a rich, nutty flavor.

Ingredients

2 sticks butter

1 onion diced

3 Tbl Dijon mustard

2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 Tbl Poppy Seeds

One package sweet dinner rolls (like King's Hawaiian) or Potato Rolls

1 lb sliced deli ham (we love Chisesi or Boar's Head)

1 lb sliced deli turkey

1 lb sliced swiss cheese

Directions

In a medium-sized pot, melt the butter and saute' the onions until translucent but not browned. Add in the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce and Poppy Seeds.

Slice the package of dinner rolls in half horizontally to make sandwich tops and bottoms. Place the bottoms in a baking dish. Spread half of the melted butter/onion mixture on the bottoms. Layer the ham, turkey and swiss on top of the butter/onion mixture. Place the tops on the sandwiches. Pour the remaining butter mixture on top of the sandwiches. Cover with foil and refrigerate and allow to marinate for 24 hours.

Bake at 350 for 20 minutes covered. Then remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until brown and toasty on top and warm and melty in the center. Move to a cutting board and cut into portions...or eat them from the pan like we did!
